The person in front of me turned around, clearly thinking I was taking a picture of them. I smiled and said, “Oh no, I was actually trying to get a shot of that project behind you.” They looked a little puzzled, then turned to see what I was pointing at.
It’s something I do all the time. I’m drawn to the structure or design, of course, but even more so to what I know is behind it: the people. The hardworking men and women showing up every day to plan, coordinate, and solve problems. The managers make hundreds of decisions that will affect not just timelines and budgets, but quality, safety, and careers. Not to mention the neighborhood they are enhancing through their dedication.
Every time I see a job site, I’m reminded that no two projects are the same. Every company operates a little differently. Every leadership team: Project Executive, Project Management, Field Operations, Accounting and Administration and all participants and stakeholders, has its own strengths and challenges. But what they all have in common is this: they succeed, or struggle based on the people in place, especially those leading the work.
That’s why I do what I do. Because behind every project is a story. And behind every successful team is a strong match between people, purpose, and leadership.
Who We Are, What We Do, and Why It Matters to Your Construction Management Career
If you work in construction management, you already understand the weight of responsibility you carry.
You make high-stakes decisions every day, balancing budgets, schedules, teams, and trade-offs. You are expected to lead, deliver, and solve problems without slowing down. Amid it all, there’s rarely time to pause and evaluate your own path.
You may find yourself wondering:
How do I close the gaps in my career? How do I get the next opportunity I’m truly seeking? How do I align my career and personal life?
At Florida Construction Connection, that’s exactly the conversation we’re built to have with you. If you’re curious about how your current role aligns with your aspirations or if your current role feels out of alignment, let’s talk.
The Human Behind the Mission
My name is Suzanne Breistol, and I’m the founder of FLCC, a company with a clear purpose: to help you define, distinguish, and develop your genuine self. Backed by a professional team and years of industry expertise, I’m here to help you take the risk out of your career decisions, whether you’re a construction professional or a company that depends on hiring the right people.
Before launching FLCC in 2004, I worked and served directly in the construction industry. I had the opportunity to collaborate openly with owners, project executives, and field teams. Through those years, I saw firsthand how careers rise or stall not just because of experience or credentials, but because of timing, communication, leadership, and cultural alignment.
Now with over 20,000+ career consultations behind me and the team, that’s why FLCC exists. We guide people and companies toward better long-term outcomes by bringing clarity, strategy, and integrity to the career journey. When individuals know who they are and where they’re going, and companies understand how to support that growth, everyone wins.
Real-World, Sound Career Advice
My dream is to help everyone in the construction industry discover their genuine self and build a career aligned with it. When people make career decisions based on who they truly are, rather than titles or trends, or a friend’s recommendation without fully vetting, the results can be life changing.
Take one example: a relationally driven professional who stepped out in faith to accept a lesser title, not less money. They understood the role, believed in the company’s vision, and felt trust in the leader they would report to. What mattered most was the opportunity for growth and the space to stay in alignment with expectations.
Fast forward a decade, this company has sustainably grown, and this individual now holds both the title and the responsibility they once only hoped for. They earn well beyond what they imagined and, more importantly, have built a secure, respected position based on trust, communication, and long-term commitment.
That’s what sound career alignment looks like and it starts with knowing who you are and where you thrive. Whether it’s better communication, stronger leadership, or clarity to choose your next role wisely, we help construction management professionals build careers that last, not just roles that look good on paper or hide behind a title.
Another example is a highly driven, results-focused manager who had always forged their own path. Despite their dedication and deep expertise in the industry, including running their own company, they often found themselves frustrated by instability: team turnover, mismatched roles, and outcomes that never quite aligned with their efforts. They chalked it up to fate, unaware that their strong tendency to control everything, even with the best intentions, was part of the pattern.
Through career coaching and placement support with FLCC, they gained perspective, made intentional career choices, and filled a critical gap: the soft skills and communication habits needed to complement their technical strength. Today, that same candidate is thriving, not just for what they know, but for how they lead, connect, and build lasting alignment with the people around them.
It’s a powerful reminder: expertise opens doors, but self-awareness keeps them open.
